Apice è un antico borgo situato nel territorio dell’Irpinia, tra le provincie di Benevento e Avellino.
Colpito dai violenti terremoti che hanno interessato quel territorio prima nel 1962 e poi nel 1980, il paese è stato evacuato e resta attualmente disabitato.
Le immagini ricostruiscono la storia e l’identità di Apice Vecchio attingendo da un archivio fotografico composto da una gran quantità di negativi e lastre di vetro ritrovato in loco dall’autrice. Sepolto dal terreno umido, l’archivio è stato rinvenuto in condizioni di profondo deterioramento.
Oggi quel che resta di Apice Vecchio sono i volti dei suoi abitanti che riprendono vita dalle macerie.
Le immagini, stampate in positivo, appaiono segnate dalle profonde cicatrici del tempo, restituendo una memoria di ciò che è stato. I personaggi, attraverso i loro sguardi e i loro semplici gesti, ci conducono nelle loro storie passate.
Apice è un racconto in cui il tempo non è più sinonimo di distruzione e abbandono ma diventa simbolo di rinascita.

Apice is an ancient village situated in the Irpinia territory, in between the provinces of Benevento and Avellino.
It was damaged during violent eartquakes that occurred in that area, first in 1962, and later in 1980, so the town was evacuated, and it’s now deserted.
The pictures recreate the history and identity of Apice Vecchio, drawing from a photographic archive that has been found on site by the author and composed by a large amount of negatives and glass sheets. In a state of abandonment and covered in soil, the archive was discovered in a very poor state of conservation.
Today, what remains from Apice Vecchio are the faces of its citizens, that reemerge from the ruins.
The images, printed in positive, reveal the marks of time, bringing back memories of what it was. Characters lead us into their old stories, through their eyes and simple gestures.
Apice is actually a tale, where time is not a synonym of destruction and desertion, but a symbol of renaissance.
